Dunsmuir has some of the Best Fishing on Earth
Catch and release fly fishing on the Upper Sac in Dunsmuir, Northern California
Avid fishermen from all over the West Coast come here to fish the Upper Sacramento River,a 35-mile freestone stream running between Lake Siskiyou and Shasta Lake. Rainbow trout are the big attraction, but there are also some brown trout in the nearby McCloud River. These are walk-and-wade streams, inhabited for the most part by wild fish, where catch-and-release is the common practice. However, there are portions of the Upper Sacramento and Upper McCloud rivers where catch-and-keep is legal.
By late May fishing season is in full swing. By then the streams are swarming with insects and lower river flows create the best fishing conditions. Early fall, when cool temperatures spur increased feeding, is another good time for anglers.
Any time of the year, you’ll enjoy fishing in one of the most scenic freshwater streams on the West Coast.
