THE 24TH ANNUAL “STATE OF JEFFERSON BREWFEST” AND THE NEW EVENT…“CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT”, IS ALMOST HERE… August 6, 2016.
The Dunsmuir Chamber of Commerce and the Dunsmuir Rotary are proud to once again bring the season’s tastiest event to the Dunsmuir City Park on August 6th, 2016. We had a blast last year and this summer’s Brewfest is shaping up to be another amazing event…And this year we are adding a Cornhole Tournament!
What’s a CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT?
Some say it was invented in 14th century Germany. Others credit the Blackhawk tribe of Illinois. Still others point to a Kentucky farmer in the 1800s.
Whatever its origin, the game CORNHOLE emerged as a favorite pastime in Cincinnati about 17 years ago and soon spread like wildfire to back yards, beaches, breweries, and campgrounds across the United States. In 2011 the New York Times declared that the Midwest’s favorite game is ‘’sweeping the Northeast.’’
Why is this game so popular? The American Cornhole Association (yes, there is such a thing!) points to its portability and age-friendliness. “Horseshoes require a sand pit and are hard for the kids to pitch,’’ explains the association on its website, ‘’lawn darts require a lawn, ring toss was made for children and bean bags are for wimps; Cornhole is the game for everyone!’’
Some popular terminology…
- Ace or Cow Pie: A bag lands on the board, which is worth one point.
- Back Door or Dirty Rollup: A cornhole that goes over the top of a blocker and into the hole.
- Cornfusion: When players or teams cannot agree on the scoring of a given inning.
- Grasshopper: A bag that bounces off the grass or ground and lands on the board for a point.
- Slider: A cornhole that slides into the hole.
- Swish: A bag that goes directly in the hole without touching the board.
