Enjoy Dunsmuir’s relaxed, friendly ambiance of our historical railroad town while strolling through the shops for viewing of some of our finest artists and authors.
Events start at 12 noon at Dunsmuir’s Botanical Gardens featuring Candace Miller, our very own horticulturalist, giving you a personal tour of the Botanical Gardens and showing off the new wrought iron fencing by artisans Arnold Krooms and Gary Gloyne at the Crevice Rock Garden. Then on to downtown where over 20 artists will be displaying their work among the local businesses beginning at 1:00. All restaurants will be open, with special music venues along the way. Refreshments will be available at many of the locations. No entry fee.
MONTAGUE, Calif.—The Bar Chords, Fernanda Froes (“The Brazilian Flame”), and clown/juggler/mime/storyteller Vaughn Avery kick off the Montague Balloon Fair on Friday evening, September 23, at the Montague Community Hall as the Montague Rotary welcomes balloon pilots and the public to the 2016 Montague Balloon Fair with an evening of food, drink, and entertainment.
Performances begin inside the hall at 6:30 p.m., where Rotary Club members will feature a no-host full bar from 4 p.m. till midnight, while Glenn and Becky Bowman of Bowman’s Catering will have their no-host food truck parked outside the hall from 4–8:30 p.m.
The event is open to the general public. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.
Fernanda Froes and friends will open the show at 6:30 p.m. Known as “The Brazilian Flame,” the South American musician (singer, songwriter, bassist, guitarist), music producer, promoter, and entrepreneur/business owner (Cherry Sound Productions) is now based in Mount Shasta and Los Angeles. Her originals and covers combine acoustic rock, blues, R&B, soul, and Brazilian pop. The Sao Paulo native, a graduate of the Musicians Institute and UCLA, has released two CDs in her home country. The Bar Chords will take the stage at 8:30 p.m. with their own brand of Americana music— a mix of classic/alternative country, folk, blues, and rock. The Siskiyou County-based band consists of guitarists Kevin Andras (a two-time California State Flatpicking Champion), Robby Eller, and Mike Slizewski, bassist/mandolin player Sam Cuenca, and fiddler Julie May. All five are vocalists. Listen for songs by Merle Haggard, Chuck Berry, Gram Parsons, Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Buck Owens, Los Lobos, The Byrds, Willie Nelson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Son Volt, Wilco, Billy Bragg, Woody Guthrie, John Prine, Alan Jackson, the Grateful Dead, Jimmy Reed, George Jones, Bob Dylan, the Band, Lee Dorsey, Commander Cody, Guy Clark, Utah Phillips, Shake Russell, originals … the list goes on.
Vaughn Avery appears in his official Siskiyou County debut between musical acts, promising “enjoyment for all ages.” Avery is a clown, a juggler, a mime, and a storyteller who has toured the world for over 25 years and now calls Montague home.
Bowman Catering will serve its renowned teriyaki chicken rice bowls, hot dogs, and nachos from the beginning of the pre-show happy hour at 4 p.m. until 8–8:30 p.m.

The 2016 Montague Balloon Fair is Friday through Sunday, Sept. 23–25.
