Dunsmuir Nationwide Event
The Dunsmuir Railroad Depot Historical Society will host its NATIONAL TRAIN DAY May 12th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Amtrak Depot on Sacramento and Pine Streets. The nationwide event commemorates the joining of the east and west railroads in 1869.
The Railroad Display Room will feature the California Zephyr’s historical advertising as well as the WWII North Platte, Nebraska Canteen.. Free Amtrak conductor hats and junior conductor guidebooks will be available for children. Amtrak schedules and vacation brochures will also be available.
Special recognition of Bryce Louden’s contributions in meeting Amtrak’s requirements that saved our Amtrak stop will be presented to his family during the event.
Work continues on the re-establishment of the Dunsmuir Museum. The public can see completed panels on our local Indian history, the naming of our town and Dunsmuir family artifacts, and the railroad site names as the railroad pushed north. Find out where Cedar Flat and Nutglade were located.
