Free Tax Filing
The Jefferson Economic Development Institute (JEDI) will provide free tax preparation assistance to qualifying Siskiyou and Modoc County residents. This VITA program is available to all taxpayers with an adjusted gross income (AGI) below $50,000. Tax preparation assistance will be available on a weekly basis in the JEDI Mt. Shasta and Yreka offices. Satellite offices in Tulelake and Happy Camp will also offer the service throughout the season. For more information or to make an appointment, contact JEDI at 926-6670.

Black History: Saxophonist Victor Martin to host a film series
The Dunsmuir Community Resource Center celebrates Black History Month with a film series on jazz and blues history. The films delve into the contributions of African Americans to the development of jazz and blues, true American art forms. There will be live performance examples throughout the series. Host and musician, Victor Martin, will present this series with a discussion before the film. Hors d’oeuvres will be served. “Identifying Western Birds of Prey” Workshop
Calling All Bird-Lovers! Here’s your chance to learn the skills needed to identify birds of prey in northern California. Phil Detrich is a local resident and former bird researcher. His slideshow features many close-up pictures of raptors. This workshop is a perfect foundation to the annual Bald Eagle and Winter, a Waterfolw Field trip to the Klamath Basin Wildlife Refuge on Feb. 25th. The workshop will be held at the Mt Shasta City Park’s Lower Lodge, Mt Shasta. No RSVP required, just bring a notebook! $5 donation suggested, benefiting the River Exchange. Castella Mardi Gras Dinner & Dance
The Castella Community Education Organization is holding their annual Mardi Gras Dinner & Dance Fundraiser at the Historic Dunsmuir Hotel, 5740 Dunsmuir Ave, Dunsmuir. Enjoy the evening with live music featuring the Miss Debbie and the Blackwell Brothers, Belly Dancers, and more. This evening is designed to raise money for education for the Castella School. Bald Eagle and Winter Waterfowl Field Trip
Join the annual outing in the Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge. Participants will meet at the junction of HWY 97 and A-12 (12 miles north of Weed). The Klamath Basin Refuge hosts the largest concentration of Bald Eagles in the contiguous United States. Other raptors and multitudes of Waterfowl can be viewed on this ultimate birder’s trip!
